What is SMILE?
A Digital Public Good ensuring vaccines reach every community in optimal condition.
The Story Behind SMILE
SMILE (Smart Monitoring & Integrated Logistics Ecosystem) was born from a critical challenge: how do you ensure vaccines remain viable across 17,000 islands, through tropical heat, over rough roads, to the most remote communities?
Built by Badr Interactive — a trusted Indonesian software house established in 2011 — SMILE was developed in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkes RI).
What started as a national solution for Indonesia's immunization logistics has grown into a globally-relevant Digital Public Good, now also deployed in Malawi, Africa.
Our Mission
To ensure vaccines and other temperature-sensitive health products reach every person in optimal condition — regardless of geography, infrastructure, or resources.
We believe that health technology should be a public good, not a commercial barrier. That's why SMILE's core platform is open-source and freely available for adoption by any country or organization.
