Digital Public Good

Open Source. Global Impact.

SMILE is on a path to become a verified Digital Public Good — freely available to those who need it most.

What is a Digital Public Good?

A Digital Public Good (DPG) is open-source software that meets the DPG Standard and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Managed by the DPG Alliance — a multi-stakeholder initiative hosted by UNDP — the DPG registry helps governments, donors, and organizations discover and adopt digital solutions that are freely available, privacy-preserving, and built for the public good.

SMILE directly supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), particularly Target 3.b — supporting research and development of vaccines and medicines for all. It also advances SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

Why DPG Matters for Global Health

🌍
Global Accessibility

Any country can adopt SMILE without licensing costs or vendor lock-in. This removes financial barriers that prevent developing nations from accessing life-saving technology.

🤝
UN SDG Alignment

Directly supports SDG 3 (Good Health) and SDG 9 (Innovation & Infrastructure). DPG certification opens doors to funding from Gates Foundation, GAVI, Global Fund, USAID, and more.

🔓
Open Source

Transparent, auditable codebase under a permissive open-source license. Community-driven development ensures the software evolves to meet real-world needs.

📈
Proven Replicability

Already deployed in two continents (Asia and Africa). The DPG framework ensures SMILE can be adapted and replicated in any country, regardless of infrastructure level.
