What is a Digital Public Good?
A Digital Public Good (DPG) is open-source software that meets the DPG Standard and contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Managed by the DPG Alliance — a multi-stakeholder initiative hosted by UNDP — the DPG registry helps governments, donors, and organizations discover and adopt digital solutions that are freely available, privacy-preserving, and built for the public good.
SMILE directly supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), particularly Target 3.b — supporting research and development of vaccines and medicines for all. It also advances SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
Why DPG Matters for Global Health
Any country can adopt SMILE without licensing costs or vendor lock-in. This removes financial barriers that prevent developing nations from accessing life-saving technology.
Directly supports SDG 3 (Good Health) and SDG 9 (Innovation & Infrastructure). DPG certification opens doors to funding from Gates Foundation, GAVI, Global Fund, USAID, and more.

Preparing comprehensive documentation against all 9 DPG Standard indicators and submitting to the DPG Alliance for verification.

Undergoing independent review and achieving verified Digital Public Good status in the official DPG registry.
Global Adoption
Making SMILE available through the DPG registry for adoption by UN agencies, governments, and NGOs worldwide, with implementation support from Badr Interactive.
